The protecting equipment consists of a helmet with a shoulder and throat protector (men), of gloves protecting the hand and the lower arm    (kote),    of hip and groin protector (tare), and a belly protector (do).

The bamboo sword (shinai) consists of four blades of bamboo, and held together with a leather fitment. The head, the wrists and the belly can be cut, and the throat can be thrust.
